Brief Description:  fixed axle on main gear

Finally received new axle for main gear. Pipistrel was went above and beyond to warranty the axle (and also set missing hose clamps and control stick clamps). I installed the new axle (torqued it to the correct value this time, 55Nm), then started to install the Beringer brake calipers and noticed that both the axle and the caliper had threads. I sent email to Leon and Jaka asking if I should drill out the caliper threads. Pipistrel replied the next day and confirmed that I use a 6mm drill to drill out the Beringer caliper mounting holes. I did this and the put everything together and mounted the wheels (the outer wheel bearing was tight on one side so I used a scotch brite pad to sand down the outer axle. The wheel still slid on tight but I was able to get it off without a puller). I then screwed on the supplied axle nuts. When I tried to turn the wheel, something was scraping and the wheel did not turn smoothly. After inspecting, I found the snap ring holding the outer bearing in was rubbing against the axle nut, I removed the wheels and snap ring and sanded the inside edge of the snap ring, then re-assembled everything. It is frustrating that so many parts need to be custom fit rather than the pieces just fitting together.
