Brief Description:  Leading edge to Spar

Ben came over and we riveted the leading edge asymbly to the main wing spar. This is by far the most difficult operation to date. There has got to be a better way to make this connection. We had to drill out many rivets and try again. We tried the binford bucking bar process and the reverse head that Van's recommends. Neither operation works very well. The clearance between the lower main ribs and the upper wing rib rivet holes is way to tight and the rivet set will not set the rivet evenly. The bucking bar placed in the leading edge can not be controled with any consitancy and the shop heads are deformed. We worked very dillegenty but I'm still not real happy with 30% of the rivets. These rivets are designed for shear not tension. The leading edge skin to main spar are going to provide the major holding strength for the two asymblies.
