Brief Description:  Lead melting notes & amount of lead needed

Local Goodwill turned up a small flying pan, hmm Teflon coated, along with a stainless spoon, and a small stainless bowl. Lead melting point is approximately 621F. Lead sourced from scrap dealer. Approximately 14 pounds. Shouldn't need more than 10 pounds for elevators.

After heating the lead, there is a skim of junk on top. Skimmed off with stainless spoon, and yes plopped it onto a paper plate. An old coffee can is a better choice than a paper plate. Note the plate was sitting on my 'welding table' which is a 1/4" 30" x 30" scrap metal plate I had gotten years ago. Nothing too fancy.

Weighed elevators when done. 10.2 pounds & 10.4 pounds (thicker weight, removed approximately 1.2 pounds from that side!) Use a Forstner Wood Bit to remove lead with no dust, and easy to use.

Note I used a 50# fishing scale, and didn't note weights prior to adding lead (opps). So take above weights as approximate. I suspect +- 0.5 pounds.
