Brief Description:  Brake Hoses -- success!

After asking on the Bearhawk list about the my hose frustration, I got some great tips.

One tip was to watch the EAA video. When seating the outer 303 Aeroquip hose into the outer shell is the comment "twist in counter clockwise, till seated, then back off 1/4". It was the back off 1/4 turn that caused all the aggravation. Simple solution.

For cutting hose I'm using a chop saw. A simple wood block with a groove in it, the width of the hose, does the trick to getting a nice clean edge.

Clean cut, insert hose, seat then back off 1/4 turn. Use insert tool, good amount of lube, and light push while turning insert. If insert doesn't go all the way in (0.02" gap) and end, the nut isn't tight enough.

Brake Backing Plate -- My son came out and helped out with drilling, counter sink, and riveting. Only catch was starting off with the #30 drill, hence the larger rivets. Nicely done, so no complaints (one rivet was squished too early, that is why they are easy to drill out and Avery sells the 'opps' kit).

PHOTO -- note 2x4 with grove in it. 2x4 up next to blade. Insert hose, hold with scrap wood, and get a nice clean 90 degree cut. Forget using a hacksaw, too messy.
