Took two weeks off building due to work and travel. Lots more coming up in next couple of months, so progress will be slow.
Next task was to drill lightening holes. Had my first big set back....
Using circle cutter on my drill press was a new skill. Turned out I was measuring the circle cutter set-up incorrectly and ended up with holes a quarter inch too big.
Since this is a major structural element in the vertical stab, I'm not going to take any chances -- ordered a new one from Van's. $22.99 plus S&H and a few extra hours of work. Worth it to me for the peace of mind.
After this experience, I think it might just be easier to lose a pound by going on Weight Watchers for a week rather than trying to drill these buggers out again.
