Brief Description:  audio panel - music wiring- 396 audio wiring-alt s

Just when I thought that I had completed the audio panel wiring and it was all secured and filled with shoe goo, I discovered that I would have to take it apart again and correct some errors.

At some point it seemed like a good idea to wire the 396 audio input to the music 1 pins on the audio panel, that way I could mute any unwanted alarms. Therefore I wired the music jack to the music 2 pins on the audio panel.

This morning I was looking at the manual trying to figure out how to hear music 2 when I realized that music 2 is for the passengers and cannot be heard by the pilot and copilot. So I have wired a music input that cannot be heard by anyone in the airplane. I called PS Engineering and confirmed this information.

This morning I worked on the installation of the alternate static air. I am using a very slick, but very heavy valve which has a toggle switch. Clippard FTV-3. I drilled a hole for it on the vertical upright section which will be covered by a cover. The problem with this is that the static tubing will connect to the valve under this cover which will probably have to be drilled off if there is a problem with the system.

Tonight I resumed work after dinner with the usual suspects. Joe Kittinger flew in from New Mexico where he was working with Red Bull on breaking his altitute jump record. Today Felix Bumgardner jumped from 97,000 feet. The next jump is scheduled for 120,000 feet although Joe says they understate the altitude to be attempted. Their actual target altitude is 127,000. Today is Joe's birthday, he is 84.

I removed the audio panel, removed the backplate, and removed the shell from the J2 connector. It took a while to get the shoe goo out, using a pick and small needle nose pliers. I used a tester to determine that the garmin 396 cable was indeed attached to the pins on music 1. I removed that cable. Next I removed the 3 wires that connected music 2 to the music jack. One pin broke off during removal and had to be replaced on the wire and removed from the
