Brief Description:  PTT circuits - audio panel wiring fix

I spent many hours over the past weekend planning out the pilot and co pilot mic and headphone jack connections as well as the PTT circuits. I made diagrams of the circuits for the documentation of the aircraft.

Tonight Dick Isherwood came by and we tested the connecitons in the audio panel where the PTT pins as well as the pilot mic pins should go and determined that I had miswired the audio panel. Three connections for the pilot mic jack were one hole over in the connector. I removed them and placed them in the correct positions.

The wire that I cut last week that runs from the stick PTT button aft to the pilot mic jack needs to be reconnected. It turns out that wire was indeed the connection between the PTT switch on the stick and the lo on the mic jack.

I moved the pin for the PTT line from the other side of the stick to its correct location, reconnected (temporarily) the wire mentioned above that I cut last week, and tested the PTT button on the stick. It worked ! So, the pilot PTT button is sorted out.

The co pilot PTT button still does not work. We found the pin on the audio panel that connects to the co pilot PTT circuit and it shows continuity from the switch to the pin. I wonder if the pin is in the right place? When we put the audio panel connectors back in the co pilot PTT did not work.

However, the co pilot headphones work and the radio can be heard through the headphone jack. The co pilot mic jack works, because Dick and I could hear each other through the intercom which has an excellent qualify.. Of course that is in my garage without an engine running.

So the accomplishments for tonight were having the pilot PTT work properly, having the co pilot headphones work, and having the intercom work. The only remaining peice of that is the co pilot PTT.

Next work session I will test the co pilot PTT switch to see if it is connected to the proper pin on the audio panel. I also need to see to reconnecting the PTT lo wire from the stick to the pilot mic jack.
