Brief Description:  PTT wiring

Tested the radios. Lat ngiht the SL30 did not work. Tonight I discovered that it does actually work except that it will not recieve ATIS at ORL. The ICOM does recieve ATIS. I switched the SL30 to the tower freq and it came in clearly. I have no idea what that is about but I am happy that the SL30 has not failed again.

I removed the audio panel and the shell from the J2 connector. My initial reason was to determine how to reinstall the jumper that came loose from the shields there. I checked for pins in the positions where the PTT connections should be for both the pilot and co pilot PTT switches. There were no pins in those connector positions. That makes it pretty clear why the PTT switches do not work.

Identified the stick PTT circuit. Indentified the white/black wire that runs from one side of the stick PTT switch. It should go to ground. It actually ran aft to connect with a wire running forward from the co pilot panel where the co pilot PTT was located. I cut that wire and will route the forward portion, which is the white/black wire to ground where it belongs.

Next it was necessary to determine the location of the white awg 22 wire that comes from the other side of the stick PTT swtich. Using a meter I found that it is installed in pin 35 of the J1 connector on the audio panel. That is the position where the pilot mic lo wire should be installed.

Complete documentation in power point of the PTT circuit.

Next work session:

1. Remove shell from J1. Remove wire from pin 35 and put in pin 34 position. (Pilot PTT)

2. Install white/black wire to a ground point

3. Test stick PTT switch

4. Do happy dance

5. Stand back, scratch head and wonder where the pilot mic lo wire is

There must be 3 wires running forward from the pilot mic. One of them is the lo. start looking for it.

6. Scratch head some more. Consider that the co pilot PTT wire must also go to audio panel and it does not. Slap self of forehead. Say bad words. Look
