Brief Description:  sired D6 PC and GPS connections - tested radios

Dick Isherwood and I tested the radios. At first we could not hear anything. DIck put a mobile antenna on the end of a long antenna cable I had around and held it outside the garage. We could barely hear the ATIS at KORL on the SL30. We could not hear it on the ICOM at all.

Dick thinks that the antenna connector on Com 2, the ICOM, should be changed out. We had only one other connector and elected to use it on the transponder antenna. It malfunctioned during installation. I will have to order a couple more antenna connectors.

I installed the PC connection harness to the D6 EFIS. Pin 22 on the D6 is the serial in port and has a dual role of accepting GPS data to give the D6 backup attitude information in case the pitot tube becomes inoperative. That same serial port is also used in the PC connector to upgrade firmware. Therefore I spliced a line that runs from the Garmin 396 GPS blue wire, then to a yellow/blue wire, into the orange wire of the wiring harness which goes to pin 22 on the D6. I must remove the GPS connection when new firmware is uploaded.
