Brief Description:  testing radios

The SL30 was returned to me from Steinair after it was repaired. Paul at Steinair told me that one thing that could damage a radio is having a short in the antnna cable. So, I checked out the antenna cable with a multi meter to make sure that there was no short in the antenna or cable.

I first tested the port side antenna cable by mistake. I found continuity between the center and barrel of the connector which seemed to be a fault. Then I realized that I had tested the Com2 radio antenna cable and that the radio was installed and the cable connected to it.

I tested the starboard antenna cable, Com1 and determined that it was an open circuit and not grounded which is what I hoped to find. I then installed the SL30 Com1 radio.

I could hear minor static on each radio but nothing more. I tried the ATIS 127.25 as well as the tower 1118.7 but heard nothing.

At first the ICOM radio would not turn on. I checked the fuse. It was blown. I replaced it.
