Brief Description:  Garmin 396 wiring and GPS tray

Srewed up more than I fixed during this session. I recently tested the wiring from the plug of the 396 audio that attaches to the audio panel. I saw that the cable contained two wires. The audio panel is stereo and the 396 can output stereo XM radion signals. So, I thought that I needed 3 wires instead of two. I went to Skycraft and bought some 3 conductor cable. When I got back to the shop I cut off the plug from the existing cable already installed in the airframe but not attached to the audio panel. I then realized that the shield was the 3rd wire and acted as the ground (lo). DUH. Now I will try to solder the plug back on.

I drilled holes in the GPS tray that I am fabricating as well as a short piece of angle which will be used to attach the tray to the firewall front side. I used a hand squeezer and did not do a good job. I intended to put theangle on the underside of the tray, but did the opposite. I think I will drill out the rivets and start again.

Dick Isherwood is not available to assist because his wife Deb had surgery yestarday and he is taking care of her. I called him tonight and asked how the surgery went. He said it went well.
