Brief Description:  Powering up the avionics

Dick Isherwood came over. I came from the beach on Sunday afternoon because I was anxious to light up the avionics and see what worked. I had charged the battery on Friday before I headed out for the weekend and it was fully charged today.

The Master switch worked to send power to the main bus and the aux main bus. The avionics switch worked to send power to the avionics bus and aux avionics bus.

We checked out the avionics one unit at a time by putting the fuse in the appropriate slot and turning the unit on.

The first thing to check out was the audio panel. It lights up and seems to work.

The Dynon D6 lights up and works.

The SL30 works on both the Com and Nav sides. At first there was a short that caused the radio to go into transmit mode. We traced it to the co pilot mic jack which was grounded to the airframe. I need a couple of isolation washers for it.

The EIS lights up and works. It took some time to find the fuse position because I did not write it down.

The GRT Sport did not light up. We checked the connector and it had power and ground coming to it as required. I will call GRT in the morning.

The ICOM, (POS radio) will not fully seat in its tray, therefore could not be tested.

The Garmin 396 connector works however I may have to trim the back of the mount because the straight connector I am using conflicts with it. Dick says he as a 90 angle on his and it works fine.

I will need to connect the back of the antennas to the radios and clean up some wiring.
