Brief Description:  Completed air gizmo install, planned avionics pino

I went to skycraft today and purchased some wire, 20awg and 22 awg for use as power and ground wires for the avionics.

I also bought some two conducter shielded wire, 10 feet of 22awt and 10 feet of 24awg. When I got home I reviewed the avioinics pinout and installation plans and discovered for the first time that most of the wires running from the audio panel to the radios are two conducter sheilded wires. There are in fact 6 pairs of them, in addition to the 4 sets of 3 conductor wires that go to the pilot and copilot audio and mic jacks.

In other words, 24 of the wires between the audio panel and radios or jacks, are shielded wires. the PMA install manual dpecifies the mil spec of the required two conductor wire. I checked the wire I bought at skycraft and discovered that the 22 awg wire meets that spec. The 24awg wires are unmarked. I think that the mil spec requirement is that the wires be marked.

I drilled out the holes in the angle that secures the air gizmo dock in place in the panel so that the air gizom dock will fit.

I removed the D connector from the back of the transponder tray. The transponder was slightly used when I bought it. The D connector had about a dozen wires still attached to it. The attached wires had been cut about 4 inches behind the connecter. I used a pin extractor and removed the pins. The cheap plastic extractors are only good for the removal of a few pins before they become useless.

OfficerTerry Popovich of OPD stopped her patrol car and introduced herself. She had seen the airplane in my garage while driving by and was curious.
