Brief Description:  wiring boost pump and stick switch

29 April 07 – 6 hours

Determined to put the hot wire to the boost pump relay on the main fuseblock. Installed a 20 awg wire from the main fuseblock and connected it to the blue 20 awg wire from the stick switch. Labeled it.

Temporarily installed the cabin heat cable and knob. Sat in the cockpit and determined that I could reach the knob by moving forward only a small bit. Determined that the position of the cable and knob was acceptable.

Parking brake activation. I determined that I could reach the parking brake valve by reaching under the instrument panel. I may not need a cable to operate it since I can reach the activation handle. I need to research that concept and determine if it is safe.

Examined the wiring to the warning lights. I attached the boost pump warning light to the tab on the boost pump relay that sends power to the pump. I removed the connector at the relay and replaced it with one that has a piggy back connection and connected the warning light 22awg wire to the piggyback. I attached the warning light wire for the landing light.
Installed the canopy frame and put the canopy on. I researched the net one last time before beginning to cut. Mickey Coggins has great information on his website. His advice, which he passed on from Paul Dye is to trim the front of the canopy first. The rear of the canopy extends several inches past the end of the canopy frame.

I also read Vans manual on installing the canopy bubble and reviewed the plans. The front of the canopy should be 3 ¼ inches behind the baggage bulkhead rivet line. Mine is exactly at that point. I made the first trim cut on the front of the canopy by removing about ½ inch from the bottom. I used a dremel with 3 different types of cutoff wheels before I had finished the cut. I started with a small tool and a small cut, to get used to cutting the canopy plexi without risking more damage than necessary. The cut came out fine and, as expected, it lowered the canopy a bit. I marked another cut line of about ½ in
