Brief Description:  FPS - flaps - trim

Installed the two stacked relays I recieved yestarday from Aircraft Extras. Wired the flap relay completely. At first the automatic switch on the panel and the manual switch on the stick would raise but not lower the flaps.

I discovered that the ground connection to the automatic switch was not connection. Once I connected the ground to the switch, the flaps would go up and down. I was unable to get the stick grip switch to go down. It is probably a bad ground for switch in the grip.

I had to do a bit of rewiring and extending existing wires to make appropriate connections. I called Rich from Aircraft Extras twice for information. There is a bit of a learning curve. Each relay has 3 power inputs, one is for the relay itself the other two are on pins 9 and 10, one for each of the internal circuits.

Lots of wiring and labeling. I made connections to 16 of the 20 pins on the relay stack. Ther remaining connections are on the trim relay. I located the two smals (awg 24 or so) white wires that go to the trim motor. Those wires are in a 5 wire bundle from the trim servo. I cut open the jacket and pulled the two trim servo wires back to run them to the relay board. There are too short and will have to be extended. I am not sure how to splice wires that small. I do not have butt connectors that small.

I used all of my blue butt connections and will need to buy more.

I need to replace the 3 amp circuit breaker that I installed today for the trim circuit with a 1 amp circuit breaker which is called for by the Ray Allen folks for the servo circuit.

Post script: Returned to the project and tested the flaps with both panel and stick switches. I noticed that the down switch for the flaps did nothing, I moved the hat switch and discovered that the left movement of the hat lowered the flaps !! Turns out that both the left hat and the down flap wires are red, just different sizes. I used the wrong red wire. Changed them out and presto....flaps work up and down now with both the stick a
