Brief Description: preparing to install skybolt fasteners
Dick Isherwood and I worked on understanding the skybolt fasteners and how to install them. We started with the fastener in the middle of the top cowl. It turns out that fastener was the hardest of them all because the rivet holes did not align well with the center hole.
I drilled the center hole through the cowl and the skybolt mounting flange, then removed the cowl and drilled out the hole in the mounting flange to the size specified. When we attempted to rivet the mounting receptacle to the flange we discovered the misalignment.
We drilled new rivet holes in flange and countersunk them. We riveted the receptable on with the squeezer. It ended up crooked.
