Brief Description: Fitting - drill on hinges - top mounting strips
Today I was going to go to bike week in Daytona but decided to work on the RV.
Having made the decision to use hinges on the sides of the cowl at the firewall, I removed the mounting strips for the skybolt fasteners that I intended to use there and drilled on hinges on both sides.
Repaired the drill press and used a 1 1/2 inch hole cutter to scallop the mounting strips then a 1 inch sanding drum to finish up the piece a bit. Drilled holes for the skybolt fasteners using the template supplied by Skybolt. I got the template backwards on half the mounting points and had to go back and drill additional holes.
I countersunk the holes in the mounting strip where rivets will attach the mounting receptacles. I realized later that I had countersunk for AN3 rivets but AN4 rivets will be used. I will have to go back and re countersink.
Used the anti corrosion process, two part wash, on the mounting strip pieces after I used scotch bite to rough them up.
Dick Isherwood stopped by about 7:30 pm. He helped me drill the horizontal hinge on the lower cowl.
