Continued trimming the cowl. It is getting very very close to where it needs to be. I trimmed the starboard aft lower cowl tonight as well as the starboard lower side at the firewall. I intend to work slowly and carefully to finish the fit.
I spent a good deal of time trying to figure out how to go about scalloping the mounting strips. I started to use a 2" hole saw, and even did a test cut with it which worked out fine. However using the 2" diameter for the cutout left too little on the mounting flange.
The example that Ned Bowers sent me used 1 3/4 diameter for the cutout. That left less than 2" on the mounting tab...about 1 3/4 left there, which makes since because the sum of the cutout and the tab equals 3 in which is 1/8 less than the interval between fasteners.
