Brief Description:  fitting cowl, FAB

Continued trimming the cowl. I removed the spacer between the firewall and topskin and dimpled it. I also dimpled the holes on the side of the fuselage at the firewall, which had not been dimpled. Used a file to remove excess material from the firewall flange which protruded foreward of the side and top skins.

Bill Davis who has build 5 RV's was kind enough to look over the cowl and give me advice as to how to improve the fit. He advised to move the cowl back and make it fit tightly at the firewall, then build up the front of the cowl to make the appropriate space behind the spinner.

I followed Bills advice by moving he top cowl back about 1/8 to 3/16 in adding a shim behind the 1/4 spacer I was using between the spinner and the cowl.

I put a piece of tape along the fuselage aft of the firewall and used the steel 10 inch rule which is 1.25 wide to mark a line the width of the ruler from the edge of the firewall aft onto the tape. I then put the lower cowl in place and marked the aft end of the lower cowl at the place where the firewall edge is, based upon the measured marks on the tape.

I also located the angle stock that I need to make the new cable anchor for the throttle and mixture cables.

I will need to make a spacer that is .25 longer than my current spacer in order to have the FAB align with the intake snoot.

I am tired and stopped for the night. I will resume fitting tomorrow.

Bill recommends using a poly fiber product to build up the front of the cowl.
