I worked a bit on the fit of the upper cowl. The gap at the aft end of the cowl at the firewall is .250 wide in some places, perhaps even a bit more in a couple of places, when the front of the cowl is in the proper place relative to the spinner.
I fitted the lower cowl and held it in place with a small rope and a truckers hitch. The front of the cowl fit ok. I overlapped the sides with the top cowl over the lower cowl. I marked a line where the cowl halves met with a sharpie. I removed the lower cowl and trimmed along the line I had just made. I reinstalled the cowl, once again holding it in place with the rope.
I will have to trim the aft end of the lower cowl. The sides will only need a bit of finish trimming.
I noticed that the mixutre lever on the fuel injection unit is very close to the side of the lower cowling. I expected that because I have read of that problem on VAF.
