Brief Description:  topskin piece at firewall

I drilled out the remaining holes in the topskin and firewall connection. I backdrilled those that were mismatched on the right side of the plane. I cut off the strip of aluminum on the firewall area in front of the forward baggage door and fabricated a new piece to replace it with.

I held the new piece in place with cleco clamps and marked the bottom hole, which overlaps the side skin, from the back with a small sharpie. I could not get my 90 angle drill in that area because of the motor mount. I removed the piece and drilled a hole where the mark had been placed. I then clecoed the strip to the top of the firewall using the hole I had just made and cleco clamps further up. I then back drilled holes in the new piece from the bottom, to match the holes in the firewall, using the angle drill. It was my first use of it and it works great. My purchase of it was timely.

I ended up with a new piece of topskin which matches with only a very slight gap with the rest of the topskin.

I was worried that I might have really screwed up in mismatching the holes in the topskin and firewall. There are a couple of holes that may be a little oversize where I will use oops rivets.

I screwed the pieced near the gear legs back in place. I had unscrewed and moved them in order to install the gear legs.
