Brief Description:  application of adhesive

I really messed up the application of the sikaflex adhesive to the front of the canopy. I followed the directions to the letter. I timed the application of the cleaner and primer. I applied the sika to the front of the canopy on both sides of the bow.

The canopy was close to the bow with little gap. I used small rubber spacers of about 1/8 to hold the canopy and bow apart. At first the application of the sika went well. It was when I tried to remove the tape that things began to go wrong. The tape stuck to the sika and it was really messy trying to get it off. I had to gouge it out in some places, bringing the sika with it. I used mineral spirits to clean up the mess as much as possible. I will have to redo that portion.

I also noticed that the canopy does not fit the frame as well as it did when I test fitted it. The first two or three attach points from the forward portion toward the aft portion attached well, using #4 stainless screws with a rubber spacer between the canopy and frame. The last fasteners would not fit, as well as the next to last fastener on one side. The holes in the frame and holes in the canopy are out of alignment by about 1/8 to 1/16 of an inch. The temperature was in the 80's. Perhaps the thermal expansion of the canopy has caused the mis alignment. I will check it later when it is cooler.
