Brief Description:  Drill out skin

Drilled out bottom aft skin to be replaced. The hole was cut in this skin for the tailwheel spring, before I changed it to the nosewheel configuration. Although I could have riveted on a cover plate, I just couldn't stand it and decided to replace the skin. It was a real pain to drill out, and probably will be worse to insert the new skin and rivet it on. I'm glad I did it for a number of reasons. One being I'm very disappointed in the quick build fuselage with respect to the F-711 and F-712 back to back bulkheads. The flanges on these back to back bulkheads were not bent correctly to be parralel with the skin, so when they riveted the skins on, they deformed the skins. I AM impressed that they could rivet such an obviously out of line bulkhead/skin combo without denting the skins! After I drilled off the skin, I manually (and very carefully) bent the bulkhead flanges to follow the skin. It is much better now, but not perfect. I will need to add shims in a number of places as I rivet on the new skin. Also, It is much easier now to add the tail tie down bracket while the skin is off...
