Brief Description:  Began building the wing assembly jig.

Today I began building the wing assembly jig. I began by making the posts that will hold the wings. I got a good tip from Wayne Massey ( www.mykitlog.com/wlmassey ), instead of using a (spendy) 4x4 for the post, he suggested using 2x4s and sandwiching them with a 1/2" piece of OSB in the middle, then glue and nail it. This worked great! It's very strong.

I then measured out 170" and marked the floor where I'll be mounting the posts. I used 4x4 mounting hardware to keep them in place. I then dropped a plumb bob to locate where on the ceiling I'd have to mount the posts. I screwed up a 2x4 between the rafters for support and then used a post level to make sure the post was plumb in all directions.

Next, I drilled the angle iron for the supports, making sure that it is level. I then shot a laser to the other post and measured down 2 3/4" from the root post. This angle is lower to allow for the mounting jig that needs to be made to hold the spar on the tip end.

Then I put in the angled supports on the root end.

Finally, I cut the outboard support tubes from 1" square tubing.
