Brief Description:  Making Aeroquip Hoses

The first hose end the other day was the hardest to do. The 3 ends I did today went together in under 10 minutes each. The ends are reverse threaded and I have found that it is best to mount a 5/8" socket on en extension in a vise to put the end on easily. If you place the end in the socket you will not crush it. Aircraft Spruce dows not tell you this in there catalog. It works best, if right handed, to have the socket pointed to the right and then push hard as you reverse thread the hose into the end cap portion of the coupling. Do not forget the 1/4 turn back off that Aircraft Spruce tells you about. I have also found that you want the swivel assembly very tight on the mandril. Use ALOT of lubricant and work vertically when inserting the ends. A scrp piece of 1/16" aircraft plywood makes a handy reference for correct depth on the swivel installation. One other note is that the hack saw method of cutting the hose is very poor to get a good end. I used tape around the hose and a grinder with a cut off disk. When cutting this way through the tape the hose cuts turn out near perfect. I installed the hoses for the left pilot brake when they were assembled. Most of the time included here relates to figureing hose lengths and installing the finished hoses.
