Brief Description:  Working on Modifications to Rudder Pedals

The bottom of the remaining long member on the passenger side now has the front and rear pivot plates welded in place. These were parts I had ordered laser-cut from a CAD file I made months ago. It required a bit of measuring to get the exact location to weld the plates into place. When measuring I figured out that it was best to cut old bottom 5/*' tube off leaving the welded joint to the vertical tube in place. This allowed me a very nice saddle to have a new moveable tube rest against when it is in place. When I welded the plates in place I did one and used it as a guide to dril the moveable tube. I then clamped the rear plate in place and completed the welding of it. The moveable tube has a rounded lower corner, made with my angle grinder and a flap wheel, to keep it from catching on anyones clothing. A one leaf spring was added to "lock" the tube in place in the down position. The vertical tube is tapped 6/32 and a stainless screw holds the spring in place. It is made from a common spring tool holder available at True Value hardware. I added a similar spring mounted in the same way for the locking position when the tube is up out of the passengers way. The moveable tube will be changed to a stainless tube so that paint will not be worn off it. I added the missing tab assembly for the steering to the pilots rudder pedal. This is another part I had laser-cut from one of my CAD files. Next the 2 pivots for the toe brake assembly were added. These bgan as .25" holes drilled through each each vertical member. I used the vise from my Sherline mill and a drill press to get these as square as a could. Next the holes were enlarged to 3/8" for installation of cross tubes. The tubes were welded on one end only. The weld was then ground down to conform to the tube. The opposite end of these tubes had a lite washer welded in place. The results are a perfect fit for the the toe brake assembly.
