Brief Description:  Working on Modified Rudder Pedal Assembly

I disassembled the central bearing assembly for the rudder pedals and removed the second half of the first rudder pedal assembly. Next I set the two pieces up on a plywood table and placed them a saw blade width appart. I cut a clamp from 3/4" OD tube 3" long and cut it in half length wise. The clamp I made and the 2 original rudder pedal parts were clamped together with hose clamps. This allowed me to set them correctly square again and drill holes for the bolts that will go through my clamp assembly. The finished assembly is very strong and will now allow me to take the pedals in and out of the aircraft as necessary. I would suggest that something of this sort should be how the assembly is built in the first place. Since the part is now out of the aircraft I could easily cut it with my grinder to start the right side modifications. I cut out the right vertical member of the right pedal. Next I cleaned up the old mount point at the top of the assembly with a flap wheel in my grinder. The old side tube was maked and cut to provide a 45 degree brace for the remaining tube. I finished today by welding the brace tube in place and did a little cleaning up on the part.
