Brief Description: Constructing New Front Gear Door Guide
The plans version of this system has 2 steel rods traveling in holes in 2 aluminum brackets. I wanted a better system that would be more permenant. Hence, I am using linear bearings and precison shafts from Berg. The old assembly was removed and the holes drilled out with a Varibit. I then fastened the top bearings in place with stainless allen head screws and lock nuts. The bottom bearings would have been in the way of the bar that joins the rods. Hence, I turned the bottom aluminum bracket that holds the bearings upside down. I then made the bearing mount holes 1 size oversize to allo them to position in line with the top bearings. They were clamped in place and the holes for the screws were made. Final assembly found a need for some shimming to gear the rods to drop entirely free. Very smooth and permenant. I just have to add the cross bar to the bottom and finish up the parts.
