Brief Description:  Make Exterior Cabin Lock & Latch Mechanism

The plans do not include an exterior lock for the aircraft. One is very much needed. Through discussion Trever sketched an idea for a door latch. It was then constructed. See the photos for a copy of the CAD drawing on this. The "key" is made from a wrench with an allen socket on it drilled for the pin in the recepticle on the plane. The wrench makes latching the stock handles easy. See the changes made in December of 06 regarding the posts that the latches work against. The stock plans units will wear out very fast. The Handle needs to be 1/8" material instead of the thickness in the plans. It will cut a groove in the post much too easily if it is not. We also added a bend as shown for room for your hand when using the handle. Lastly, I laser cut oak pieces for the ends of the handles. They are installed with chrome countersunk screws. The wood was finished with Lindseed Oil.
