I started working again on the right main wing spar today. I first worked on getting the root rib attach angles(SNX-W20-02/03) up-drilled and fitted to the spar. Some of the holes needed to be tight fit, so I first up-drilled them using a #13(0.185") drill bit. I then reamed out the hole with a 0.1865" reamer. This gave a perfect tight-fit hole.
I had to do some clean up on the spar, due to there being 3 year old rivet tape that was holding yet to be rivetted rivets. There was some old residual adhesive stuck to the spar web that I cleaned off with some naptha. I re-taped the rivets and started rivetting again.
I thought I would give the rivet gun a try instead of using the bolt and hammer method to set the rivets. I couldn't get the hang of this three years ago so I went with the bolt/hammer method. I seemed to get the rivet gun adjusted better this time and was able to successfully set some rivets, but I still had some issues in tight places.
I got the remaining rivets placed and taped on the spar and will finish rivetting tomorrow. I already know there are some rivets that need replacing, so I will give the spar a good looking over when I finish and replace any rivets that are suspect.
Onward!
Root rib attach angle in place and ready for final fitting.
