Brief Description: New bench grinder and metal cutting bandsaw
I probably spent 3 or 4 hours on this, but it doesn't really count towards the airplane. Finally bought a bench grinder. Ended up getting at 8" model so I can mount the Scotchbrite wheel. It's only 6" in diameter, but 1" thick and all of the 6" grinders only take 3/4" thick wheels. However the hole in the Scotchbrite wheel was 1/2" and the arbor is 5/8" so ended up buying a set of large twist drills and drilling out the hole. I started with 5/8", but the fit was too tight. The next available size was 11/16". That was slightly too large, but workable. I think a 21/32" would be perfect. Also bought a bandsaw from HF. The assembly instructions were terrible, but I got it together in a couple of hours. I debated getting a 4 speed wood bandsaw, but even the low speed of about 500 fpm was too fast for ferrous metals. This one has 3 speeds with a top speed of 200fpm. I'm sure it will also cut wood, but rather slowly with fine teeth and a low speed.
