Brief Description:  Tie down brackets

countersink the holes in the aft section of the spar per the plans for the K1000-4 plate nuts. I then sprayed a qtip with some primer and dabbed it into the countersink holes. After the primer dried I set the 3-6 rivets in the K1000-4 plate nuts.

Next came the tie down brackets. I cut the spacers with a table mount jig saw, which worked out pretty well. I cut close to the line and then used the scotchbrite wheel to take away the excess material to the line. I then measured the deminsions to cut the lightning hole on the spacer. I then drilled a small pilot hole and used a 7/8" unibit (didnt have a 1", but 7/8 is pretty dang close :) ) The unibit worked GREAT...made a nice hole with ease.

I measured the first hole on the tiedown bracked and drilled it with a #12 bit. I intalled it on the spar and used a framers square to make sure everything was square. One thing I saw on another builders site was to tape down the spacers to hold them in place while drilling. I then back drilled the remaining holes......NOTE: make sure to put a bolt in each hole after you drill to hold things in place.....I didnt do this on the second tie down bracket and it moved on me!!!!!....a call to Vans to order a new one is in place. I also ordered 50' of the vans conduit and 2 of the Vans tie down rings.

Tomorrow I am going to try and start working on the rear spar and finish the tie down bracket that I was able to complete while I wait on the part to come in
