Brief Description:  paint parts, brake fluid and brake bleeding

This afternoon I applied finish paint to the trim tab halves, the horns (trim tab and elevator), the spades and the spade attach fittings.

This evening I charged the brake system with brake fluid. The manual suggests using a pump oil can to charge the brake from the lowest point up. I found a large capacity hand oil can with a finger/trigger style pump lever. The can holds about a pint of fluid. I used a looped length of clear poly-tube to attach the pump nozzle to the brake caliper bleeder. At first I had problems getting the pump to push the fluid much past the caliper. After several attempts at trouble-shooting I realized that I had the parking brake lever in the down, or "on" position and as a result, I was trying to pump the fluid against a closed system. Once I opened the parking brake valve the pump worked very easily.

The clear brake line makes it easy to see any air bubbles that are entrained in the lines.
