Brief Description:  Moving project to the airport

Today I gathered some friends and family and we moved the project from my home shop to the Fallbrook Airpark. My two sons (Mike and Sean), my next-door neighbor Keith and long-time friend Brad Anderson assisted from this end, with Tom Aberle (Aberle Aviation) joining in at the airpark. Keith has a state-of-the-art aluminum car trailer for his hot-rod projects that we used for the big pieces.

First we moved the rolling wing-rack onto the trailer and secured in in place. Next we removed the wings from the plane and put them onto the stand, then carefully secured them in place. With Keith driving blocker like something out of a Burt Reynolds "Gator McClusky" movie, we drove very slowly over to the airpark, about 1.5 miles on public roads.

After dropping the wings off at the hanger we returned for the fuselage. Keith has a very large car trailer, but even so, the fuselage just barely fit onto it. The front tires were up against the front lip of the bed, and the tailwheel was within and inch or two of the rear of the bed. We thoroughly secured the fuselage in place every which-way, then re-inacted our "little-old-lady-from-Pasadena" like drive to the airpark. At the airpark I took advantage of all the availalble help to re-hang the wings, leaving the plane looking about as it had looked in my shop.

No damage noted to anything.

The man-hours spent were a lot more than the one-hour I've listed on this entry, but since this wasn't really construction I won't count more that a token hour for the effort.
