Brief Description:  N Numbers, data plate shims etc

I had a local sign shop make nice vinyl N-Numbers for the plane. I installed them today.

My neighbor/friend/machinist made me a custom stainless steel engraved data plate. After some discussion with my DAR, we determined that I could mount the data plate on the left side of the aft fuselage, riveting the plate to the support structure surrounding the battery access door. The data plate that Keith made is oval in shape, and not too obtrusive.

During the early construction process I had to use shims to correct the alignment of the "pillow-blocks" used to support the torque-tube assembly in the cabin area of the plane. The weldments were just not perfectly aligned, causing some friction/stiction in the assembly. We used small tabs of paper as shims in a trial and error process to get the movement as smooth and effortless as possible. I decided to leave the paper shims in place until the plane was finished, and to then replace them with stainless steel shim material, making whatever adjustments would be needed to keep the torque tube moving freely.
