Brief Description: Assembling elevator control system
The day started with a parts run to aircraft spruce. I made a mistake installing one of the Cherry-Q rivets in the end of the elevator push-pull yoke and had to drill out the rivet. Unfortunately, I did not have any spares (Rans supplies enough of all parts, but no spares or extras). I beleive that I am going to order a pretty comprehensive assortment of spare Cherry-Q and Avdex rivets, as well as some additional AN hardware. I have quite a bit on hand, but not in every size or style needed.
After drilling out the bad rivet and replacing it, I finished assembling the yoke (photo). A little Marvel Oil on the yoke tubes went a long way to making this job do-able. The forward push-pull tube gets threaded bushings in both ends (photo). There are other tubular style bushing that will go inside the push-pull tube where the attachment bolts at either end pass through. It took a little "adjusting" to make everything fit just so. I also had to install the two "U-Brackets" on the end of the torque-tube assembly (photo). Next was the installation of the idler brackets inside the fuselage just aft of the battery access door. Both the brackets and the fitting on the fuselage get bushings. The diagram in the parts book is a little confusing and took quite a bit of studying to decipher.
