Brief Description: prep/paint torque tube, sticks etc
I am painting the torque tube, control sticks, flap lever and related parts a medium grey using PPE 2-part urethane over 2-part epoxy primer. I am prepping all the steel parts using PPE DX 579 and DX 520. These products are cleaning, corrosion removing and corrosion converting agents, and a metal prep/adhesion improver. I started by cleaning all the parts with lacquer thinner to remove any grease, wax etc. Next I applied the DX 579 per the PPE spec sheet. The DX 579 contains phosphoric acid and other products, and is easy to use if a little messy. It will attack concrete, floor finish etc, and is very hard on clothing, shoes and skin,
I next used the DX 520, again applying it per the PPE specifications. PPE strongly recommends that you apply your paint on the same day that the prep agents are used. I applied 2-part epoxy primer using a HVLP spray gun. I then applied PPE 2-part urethane paint over the primer. The finish paint can be applied after the primer has cured for about one hour.
