Brief Description:  Weight and Balance

After much preparation put the airplane on scales and completed the Weight and Balance process. I built a hydraulic lift earlier to help with working on the gears. This came very handy for this application. Bob Eggleston came over to give me a hand. We placed the hydraulic lifts on the tie down rings and simultaneously lifted the main gears off the floor enough to place the two electronic certified scales (hangar neighbor loaned me the scales) under the tires then carefully lowered the tires onto the scales. We placed the third scale under the nose wheel by pushing down the tail section next to the vertical stabilizer. The aircraft was perfectly level at the fuselage top longeron at the cockpit. We recorded all three weights in pounds. We checked the two main wheel and nose wheel distances from the datum. We repeated this process by putting on the gear leg fairings and tire covers for determining the weights (Datum 70" from wing leading edge). These are the results:

wheel covers off Wheel Covers on Arm Moment off Moment on
Right Wheel 398 lb 403 lb 91.88 36568 37028
Left Wheel 403 lb 408 lb 91.88 37028 37487
Nose Wheel 272 lb 273 lb 34.5 9384 9419
Total 1073 lb 82980 83934
C.G. off 77.33 aft of datum
C.G. on 78.22 aft of datum
