Brief Description:  Engine baffle air seals

We left to Kansas City on the 10th and returned on the 15th. Back to the engine baffle battle. I started the installation of the airseals which is a rubber/cloth mash material. At least that what it looks like. Finally I riveted on everything except the right outside front seals where I still have some problem with the proper seal of the engine compartment. The contour of the ramp is giving me problems; I think I will leave this untill I fiberglassed the ramp to the cowling. Maybe I can adjust the contour of the ramp to give me a better seal. Unfortunately I run out of the airseal material, so it looks like I will have to order a new roll.

I didn't detail the 3 weeks of work because there was an endless fit and try process, not much to report on. The rear and back two sides went on with no problems. The front sides, the floor and the inside bulkheads were an other story. I had to break this up into short work sessions because of the frustration involved. There is some question as to where to seal on the front; to the cowling or to the ramp. According to VAN'S the seal to the ramp is the proper way to go. Others say I should close (fiberglass) the two sides of the two ramps and seal to the cowling. This would involve narrowing the ramp to give room for the airseals. I desided to seal to the ramps as advised by VAN'S. The following pages (days) will show the pictures of the airseals as installed so far. There will be more work to do on the right air inlet.
