It is time to drill the 1/2" hole for the ELT antenna. Since I had some questions about rotation of the antenna in the circular hole I called technical support at ACK Avionics. They assured me that if I tighten down the nut firmly on the doublers plate and the serrated washer it will not rotate. Following the advice from ACK, I drilled the 1/2" hole using a step drill bit and de-burred the hole. Since the installation of the antenna is a two men job Bob Eggleston came over to help me on the outside keeping the antenna oriented in the proper direction while I tightened up the nut inside the fuselage. The technical support people were right, the antenna will not move. After everything was tight I installed the static suppressor. I temporarily installed a 10 foot coaxial cable until I get a 7.5 foot cable that is better suited for the distance between the ELT and the antenna. This job is really cruel on your old body.
