Today, I began construction on the empennage. I began by radiusing the ends of both HS-609PP's using a scotchbrite wheel and then deburred the edges of both pieces. I then cleco'd the HS-609PP's to the HS603PP's and drilled the holes. I then removed the clecos and sanded the HS-609PP's with 400 grit sandpaper. After obtaining a nice finish with round edges, I cleco'd the assembly back together and added the HS-412's and HS-413's. I then assembled the HS-411PP's and VA-146. All holes were drilled, and cleco's were placed. I then removed all cleco's and deburred all holes. I then prepped the HS-609PP's and VA-146 for priming. I used Rustoleum self etching primer for the project. Both items were primed, and I took a meal break while waiting for the primer to dry. I then began working on the front spar. Both HS-702's were cleco'd to the HS-710 and HS-714. Holes were drilled, and I then removed the cleco's in order to radius the ends of HS-710 and HS-714. I then assembled the HS-609PP's and VA-146. My first six rivets were successfully set using a hand squeezer.
