Brief Description:  Finally confronted Black Death

Well, the day finally arrived. I could not put off tank riveting any more. Jim Anderson came over and we tackled riveting with Proseal ("black death"). It was not as smelly as I thought it would be, but Proseal is definitely more sticky than I thought it would be. It is also incredibly stiff. I am glad I made some popsicle stick type applicators out of some aluminum strips. The extra stiffness was good.We mixed the proseal using a digital postal scale that I lifted from work (I put it in a gallon plastic bag to keep proseal from getting on it. Everyone is right. Proseal gets on everything. Cleanup takes copious amounts of MEK.Riveting the stiffeners on was not too bad, although we tried to shoot some rivets before puting the steel back riveting plate under the rivet heads. Thankfully, we did not damage anything. We then back riveted on the fuel cap flange. There, we had to drill out one rivet, but that was not half as bad as I thought it would be. Finally, we riveted on the tank drain flange, which we had to squeeze on. Next, we dabbed proseal onto the rivet heads and tried to put a filet around each stiffener and flange. I will have to let everything cure for a few days before tackling the ribs.
