Brief Description:  Fabricated Leading Edge Cradle & L leading edge

I missed two days, but for very good reasons. On Thursday, Jim Anderson was sworn in as the very first Municipal Judge of the City Court of Sandy Springs Georgia. Sandy Springs officially became a city on that same day. It was an auspicious moment and it was great to see my friend honored that way.On Friday, I spent the afternoon at Northlake Mall, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. When I got home, I was just too tuckered out to build.Today was a big day. Early in the morning, I went to the EAA Chapter 690 pancake breakfast. It is always good to connect with the club. There were at least 5 RV builders and owners there. I saw Jamie Painter and met Don Hall, an RV-7 builder from Cumming. Of course I also saw Mike Stewart's Super Eight. It is a thing of beauty. He gave Don a ride, but then had to go. I will get my ride someday. I started construction by building the leading edge cradle out of some 3/4 inch MDF I had left over from the top of my construction table. I cut out one side on the band saw and it was pretty ugly. I cut the other side with a hand held sabre saw and it was much neater. Since the MDF is pretty soft, I only put some electrical tape on the edges to prevent scratches.I then put the left leading edge skin in the cradle and started fitting the nose ribs inside. It was a bear. They tell you to start at the front and then cleco to the back. That did not work for me. I just tried to get in any clecoes I could until I got them all clecoed in. It took a good hour and lots of elbow grease to get it all fit togetherThen, I took the leading edge assembly from the cradle and put it on the main spar. Beautiful! It fit perfectly Next, I back drilled the ribs to the spar and then reamed out all of the skin to rib holes. I would like to start the leading edge for the right wing, but I am out of 3./32 clecoes. I will have to order some more, as well as some proseal for the fuel tanks, which are next.
