Brief Description:  Figuring out the flaps

After a post Oshkosh party at EAA Chapter 690, I started on the flaps. The plans state that the flaps are the easiest control surface to build, but the plans and drawings leave a lot to be desired. It was very difficult to figure out just how things go together with the flaps. On top of that, there are the first significant parts of the project that are not match drilled. I don't really understant why Vans did not match drill these parts, since they are not much different than other parts. Also, the plans tell you to have a 1' X 5' flat surface to build the flaps straight, but there is no mention of how to use that surface. When most of the drilling is done, the flap is festooned with clecoes, so how in the world do you keep everything straight? Nevertheless, I bumbled my way through assembling and drilling out the left flap. I used George Orndorf's video instructions, but they were of little additional help. Oh, well. I hope I did it right.
