Brief Description:  Back from Sun-N-Fun 2009

As I do every year, I took a week off to attend the Sun-N-Fun flyin in Lakeland Florida. I had a great time with lots of friends and I saw some magnificent RVs to give me inspriation. I actually flew down on the Saturday before the show to attend a mini RV flyin at the Leeward Air Ranch in Ocala, Florida. There, I saw fellow 8A builder, Doug Gardner, with whom I am planning a flight to circumnavigate the continental U.S. At Lakeland, I was joined by good friends Jim Carter and Jim Anderson. The flight home in my Cessna Skyhawk was great. We flew to the Atlantic coast and then headed north to St. Simon's Island for lunch. Then, we launched for home (Atlanta) with some big honkin tailwinds. We made St. Simon's to Atlanta in 1:40. At the SNF flyin, I looked at engines and avionics. Sadly, engine prices have not come down at all in this tight economy. In fact, Lycoming is about to hike their prices after May 15. I don't think that I can raise $24K by then to buy the engine before the price increase. Oh well, I never got into aircraft construction to save money.
