Brief Description:  Back in action

After being AWOL for over two months, I finally got back into the shop. First, I spent a few hours last Sunday beginning to clean out the shop. It was a real mess of misplaced tools, cobwebs and dust. I spent another 1.5 hours tonight finishing the job. With a clean shop, I started back on the project. My next task is to finish fabricating and installing the aileron push tubes. Tonight I reinstalled the control column and made sure the forward and aft sticks were parallel to each other. It was a bit of a fiddle to get the control column through the small square holes in the center section. Then, bolting the aft support to the floorboard is a bear since it is almost impossible to reach underneath the floorboard to secure the washers and nuts. Once I pull the floorboards back up, I will see if I can rivet nutplates in there to avoid that problem in the future. It felt great to be back in the shop. A final note: Bear, the puppy we raised for our youngest son, Mark, is back visiting us for the week. Vicki gladly gave him my chair to sit in while I was in the shop.
