The plans tell me that now I am to fabricate the fuel and vent lines for the fuselage. They don't say how to do it. I guess that Vans thinks I can just look at the drawings and figure it out for myself. Not being an engineer, trying to read drawings is a real challenge. Oh well, just another leap of faith in the building process. In order to plumb the fuel tanks to the fuel selector valve, I need to be able to access the valve. There are two problems; first, I have used a non-standard fuel selector valve. I bought the Andair fuel valve, which is much more robust than the one supplied with the kit (and which looks like it was pulled off of a Massey Ferguson tractor). Also, I mounted the fuel selector valve directly to the console cover, rather than to a sub-structure, as called out in the plans. The only problem is that I cannot visualize the bottom of the valve while it is screwed to the console cover. So, I made some measurements to determine where the valve is located in reference to the fuselage sides and then I fabricated a small mounting plate for the valve, which keeps the valve in the same place that it would be if it were mounted to the console cover. I then mounted the valve to this temporary mounting plate, which gives me access to the bottom of the valve so that I can fabricate the fuel lines. Once all of the fuel lines are finished, then I can mount them permanently to the fuel selector valve and mount the valve to the console cover.
