Brief Description:  August 8, 2008

This is sort of a bittersweet night for me. The date is 8-8-08. When I began this project, a little over three years ago, I set this date as my goal for making my first flight. I know it sounds a little goofy, but here I am building an RV-8(A) and my reserved registration number is N888SV (Steve & Vicki). I thought the project would take about three years. So, it made some sense to shoot for 8-8-08 for my first flight. Well, I did not quite make it. Here I am, with a mostly completed fuselage. I just plugged the wings in for the first time. However, I still have a great deal of construction left before I can think about aviating. Homebuilders have a saying, which goes, "Ninety percent finished, Ninety percent to go." Even when it seems close to completion, there is still a lot left to do. My major hurdles left are, the engine, the canopy, the cowling, the instrument panel and, of course, miles of wires to be strung, connected and tested. From a financial point of view, I still have to buy an engine, which costs about $25,000. I am hopeful that I can sell my 1968 Corvette for around that amount. Next, the instrument panel and radios will cost at least $20,000, and that's for the basics, nothing extremely fancy. I have been working my fanny off at work, trying to raise my income. I must admit that it is hard, but I have come too far to quit now. I will complete this airplane, I will fly this airplane. I will fly this airplane around the world. God willing.
