Brief Description:  Installed the stick assembly

It was a beautiful fall Saturday and I started the day by attending the pancake breakfast at EAA chapter 690. There were several RVers there and I had a great time. Later, Jim Anderson came over and we tackled the elevator cortrol system. There are three pushrods in the whole elevator control system; one between the tail and the elevator control horn (midships), one between the elevator control horn and the rear control stick, and the last one between the rear stick and the front stick. Jim and I fabricated the two forward most pushrods, a task which was made easier by Jim's I-pod and player. We grooved to the Eagles and other seventies favorites in the shop. Later, after Jim left, I put together the stick assembly and shoehorned it into the cockpit. Then, I adjusted the pushrods, starting from the rear and going forward. Firts, I adjusted the length of the aft pushrod (the one between the elevators and the midship elevator control horn) so that the control horn was in a neutral position (they give you measurements as to what is "neutral"). Then, I adjusted the middle push rod (the one between the control horn and the rear stick) so that the control stick was perpendicular to the longerons (in other words, straight up and down when the fuselage is level). I did not have to really adjust the length of the forward most pushrod (the one between the rear stick and the front stick) because it was also straight up and down. It feels great to have the elevator control system in the plane, even if it will have to come out again later. The control pressures on the elevators are smooth and light. Just another step closer to that first flight.
