Brief Description:  Installed flap motor

Jim Weed came over to Tranquility Base tonight and we installed the flap motor. First, we used the 14.4 volt battery from the Dewalt power drill to run the flap acutator (attached to the motor) to its fullest extension. Then, we attached the motor and actuator assembly to the weldment bar that transfers the force from the flap motor to the flaps themselves (at the bottom of the photo). We bolted the bar to the floor and then positioned the upper bracket on the aft cockpit bulkhead. We then drilled the bracket to the bulkhead. In the middle of all of this, we ran the motor up and down several times to make sure everything cleared the sides of the fuselage and the hole in the armrest. After some fiddling, it all fit and we drilled away. Tonight I also conducted my last paint test. I wanted to see which paint covered sharpie marker bleed through in the primer. The Ace premium paint covered the marker bleed through, but the Krylon did not. So, it looks like Ace has edged Krylon as the winner. As an added bonus, it was $2.00 a can cheaper.
